HEATH, ADRIAN
A British artist best known for his expressive abstract paintings, Adrian Heath was born in Burma
in 1920. He settled in London at the age of five and later studied at the prestigious Slade School
of Fine Art. Heath joined the military during World War ll and spent much of his time as a
prisoner of war in Bavaria. Here, in solitary confinement for nearly a year, Heath began to
experiment with abstraction and later dedicated himself to the movement.
Heath's work was exhibited in important survey exhibitions on an international level during his
lifetime and continues to be shown even today. His work is held in private collections around the
world and in major public collections such as the Tate (UK), the Hirshhorn [Vuseum and
Sculpture Garden (USA), and the lVoderna Vluseet (Sweden).
